If you’re a Gilmore Girls fan and a foodie, a Sookie St. James costume is perfect for this Halloween. We all love Lorelai’s best friend and business partner at the Dragonfly Inn for her bright, colorful chef clothes made specifically for her job. Fun fact: Sookie also often wears a Band-Aid to highlight her clumsiness in the kitchen.
I’m guessing you probably love her for her charming, down-to-earth, bubbly personality, as well as her loyalty, too. So feel free to giggle often while wearing this costume — or maybe even belt out some Ricky Martin or “cookies for the love and the Dean.” (If you know, you know.)
Recreate Sookie St. James’s Chef Outfit As a Costume
Hair: Purple Bandana and Auburn Wig
Sookie most often wears her auburn hair in cute pigtails under her bandana. While the pigtails in this wig are higher than Sookie wears them, they will be under a bandana, so only the bottoms will peek out like Sookie. They are also on clips, so you can move them around! Or, wear your own hair in pigtails.
In my mind, I think “purple” when I think of Sookie’s bandana, just like the picture above. However, feel free to wear another color if you have one.
Outfit: Chef’s Coat, Pants, Apron, and Clogs
Sookie wears the most vibrant and colorful chef gear. I love this bright blue chef’s jacket to get her bold aesthetic. It complements the purple bandana well.
While you can wear any dark pants you like for this costume, traditional chef’s pants are the most accurate option.
Sookie also often wears a white half-apron in the kitchen.
Lastly, while you can wear any dark shoes with this costume, these black Crocs clogs fit the chef aesthetic (and are comfortable, too).
Accessories: Spatula and Dragonfly Pin
While Sookie doesn’t wear a dragonfly pin, I thought this dragonfly pin was a great symbol of the Dragonfly Inn’s logo. It will round out the costume.
Lastly, a spatula (or other kitchen accessory) is one optional small detail that will really put the finishing touches on this costume.
